Proposition "O"

Voters in 2004 approved Proposition “O” which approved a half cent increase in local sales tax for a period of ten years. This would generate needed funds to enhance public safety and to build a public safety facility in the City near Park & Magnolia. A portion of these funds also went toward the building of Fire Station #8. The Station 8 project was also funded by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (H.U.D.). The construction cost is just under $4 million with a total project cost approaching $5 million dollars.

Fire Station #8

Construction is now underway for the new Fire Station #8 to be located at 1470 E. Madison Avenue. El Cajon Fire Chief Mike Scott hosted a groundbreaking ceremony held on January 23, 2007. Contractor, Erickson-Hall, is expected to complete construction of this 9,300 square foot facility by April of 2008. The new fire station is being designed by the Architectural firm, Nicoloff & Associates. This new Fire Station 8 will replace the existing Station 8 located at 842 North 3rd Street built in 1958.
