Welcome to El Cajon’s Redevelopment Plan Amendment Project

This project is on hold due to a Stay of Action issued by the California State Supreme Court in conjunction with a recent lawsuit filed by California League of California Cities and the California Redevelopment Association against the State of California.

The El Cajon Redevelopment Agency is considering amendments to its current Redevelopment Plan.  The Agency’s Redevelopment Plan provides a blueprint for future activities to further the economic viability of the Project Area and to create affordable housing opportunities.  The El Cajon Redevelopment Agency encourages the community to actively participate in this process and we have created this section to provide the public with information regarding this project.  This information will be updated regularly as the project proceeds over the next fourteen months.

By law, Redevelopment Agencies in California must update their plans periodically or certain powers and portions of the plan will expire.  This is a complex process requiring a number of studies as well as public meetings.  No final decisions will be made until those studies are complete and the necessary meetings and public hearings have been held.  Final decisions are made by the El Cajon Redevelopment Agency in a public meeting.

You will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader to successfully view the linked items below.

Community Workshops
- The project has just begun, and we are seeking to provide information as well as seek community input at the very beginning of this process.  Three workshops are scheduled, and although they are targeted for specific areas to better focus the presentations and distribute attendance, the public is welcome to attend whichever workshops they desire.

Who Do I Contact If I have a Question?

Community Participation is vital to this project.  We welcome your comments and questions.  We encourage you to attend the workshops, and thoroughly explore the information in this website, especially the “Frequently Asked Questions” and the “Additional Redevelopment Resources” sections.  In addition you may contact the City’s Project Manager for the Plan Amendment Project, Jim O’Grady, at jogrady@cityofelcajon.us.  We also encourage your suggestions regarding information that would be helpful to post on these web pages.
