Used Motor Oil and Oil
Filters:
There are two options to recycle used motor oil
and oil filters within the City of El Cajon. First,
Waste Management, Inc. of El Cajon can pick up
the used oil and filter curbside. Second, you can
take the used oil and filters to a certified used
oil collection center.
Curbside Collection: After you have drained your
vehicleês oil into a clean, clear plastic container
with a tight lid, call Waste Management, Inc. at
least one day prior and notify them that you will
leave the oil curbside, and then leave the container
at your curbside on your regularly scheduled collection
day and time. To recycle your oil filter drain
the oil from the filter (for at least 24 hours),
place the oil filter in a zip lock bag or a special
bag provided by WASTE MANAGEMENT, INC., and place
the used oil filter bag curbside. If you need a
free, used oil filter bag please call (619) 596-5100
and one will be sent to you.
Certified Used Oil Collection Centers: The Integrated
Waste Management Board encourages the recycling
of used motor oil by certifying used oil recycling
collection centers throughout the state. Certified
Used Oil Collection Centers will take used motor
oil from the public and will pay you 16¢ a gallon.
Most centers will take up to 5 gallons at a time.
When you take your used oil to a certified center
for recycling, you are protecting the environment,
conserving a valuable resource, and getting paid
for it. That's a winning combination!
For
certified used oil collection centers located within
the City limits of El Cajon.
What About Contaminated Oil: Certified center managers
will not accept used motor oil that has been contaminated
with other fluids such as antifreeze, solvents,
gasoline, or water. So please, don't mix your used
oil with anything. However, if your used oil accidentally
gets contaminated, your certified center manager
can tell you where to take it for proper disposal.
The companies listed below are the Certified Used
Oil Collection Centers within the City of El Cajon.
