OTHER PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATES Proposition O, the ten-year ½-cent sales tax measure approved by the voters in November 2004, which can only be used for public safety facilities, funds the projects listed below. Planning continues for additional enhancements at Fire Station 6, Fire Station 7, and a new Animal Shelter. Other public safety facility projects include the recent completion of improvements to Fire Station 9 on Marshall Avenue for $1.6 million and the Competion of a new Fire Station 8 on 1470 East Madision Avenue. Fire Station 9 The renovation consisted of individual dorm rooms and bathroom facilities for male and female firefighters, remodeled day room, new flooring in the kitchen and an energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. A new roof with more energy-efficient features and improved design was added, along with additional work-space for paramedics and duty captains, improved training facilities, a new station alerting system, enclosed safety gear room, slip-resistant flooring in the apparatus bay, enhanced exhaust system in the apparatus bay where the fire engine and ambulance are parked when not in use, and insulated apparatus bay doors.
Fire Station 8 A new Fire Station 8 was completed in 2008. This state-of-the art facility provides firefighters the amenities they lacked in the old facility. Features include:
Fire Station 6 El Cajon's Main Fire Station 6 received improvements were completed in 2008. Current work includes a remodeled kitchen, new bathroom floors, a new high efficiency heating & air conditioning unit and a new energy efficient roof.
